At 2 a.m. local time Sunday, daylight saving time arrives with the promise of many months ahead with an extra hour of evening light.
You lose an hour of sleep, but make sure to turn the clock ahead — spring forward — before heading to bed Saturday night to avoid the panic of a late rise.
It’s also a good time to put new batteries in warning devices such as smoke detectors and hazard warning radios.
Some places don’t observe daylight saving time. Those include Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas.
Daylight saving time ends Nov. 3.
At least we don’t worry about Tisha B’Av being an extra hour of fasting…hopefully the new government in EY will go along with the rest of the civilized world and keep daylight savings time in effect longer and not defer to a small minority of fanatical rabbonim who have required an earlier conversion back to standard time in the fall because they have convinved themselves the fast will be shorter on yom kipppur…
Lose an hour of sleep? Just go to bed AFTER 2:00/3:00 and you won’t lose an hour of sleep. Works every time.
Israel observes Winter Time? We are just a little further south and never bother.
PLEASE EVERYONE…use the clock change as reminder to check the batteries on your smoke detectors. If your don’t have smoke detectors… GET THEM. Also EVERYONE ..PLEASE keep ABC rated Fire Extinguishers in your home or apartment. An ABC rated Fire Extinguisher should be used to cover most home fires. Thank you!!
