The LONDON EVENING STANDARD (http://bit.ly/17ibiQC) is reporting that, at the center of the controversy, are plans by the ultra-Orthodox to add extensions to existing structures to accommodate a population which, they claim, is slated to double over the next twenty years.

In order for the ultra-Orthodox-backed Stamford Hill Neighbourhood Forum’s (SHNF) plans to move forward, it must first be granted the power over planning rights, which they claim is possible under the Localism Act, part of David Cameron’s 2010 manifesto “Big Society.”

The SHNF submitted an application to the Hackney council requesting that sole power over planning rights be granted.

Local seculars and trade unionists so vehemently oppose the idea that the Hackney Planning Watch group was founded, submitting its own application requesting that it be granted sole power over planning rights.

Charges ranging from “anti-Semitism” to “social cleansing” have resulted, causing the Hackney council to reject both applications due to what it termed “deep-seated divisions within the community.”

Both sides are now claiming that the issue is far from over, with one Rabbi stating that it’s now between “the Yuppies and us.”

Stamford Hill consist of Hackney and Tottenheim borough. The same street could be in both borough. In Tottenheim people are allow extensions; while in Hackney they are not. In Stamford Hill we get along great with the Moslem community to the extend we are helping the Moslems to set up their own shommerim organization to protect their houses and mosque. The problem comes from anti-semities in the government. They always block everything so people do it without permits. If a shuls wants to ad on it is always blocked; but new things spring up in an hour without hassle. There was a school which move to a brand new building paid for by the government. The Jewish community wanted to buy it to stay a school. Hackney want to make it a 9 or 12 story high raise high end flats which the builder is a friend of the government.. Only under a threat of protest was it
stop. We had the Moslem community backing us. A mile a way they knock down a eye sore. Great more new flats rights. The problem most of the flats are
6 stories and they build one 26 stories why. Nothing make rhyme or reason except payoff. All new buildings are 6 to 9 stories and you get a 26 story one.
