LOHUD.com (http://lohud.us/16x4aRE) reports that, according to Sgt. Sal Matos of the Ramapo PD, two Chaverim members were leaning against a friend’s car on Rita Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. when a car displaying North Carolina tags rolled up on them.

Witnesses say a male passenger then stuck a black rifle out the window and began firing while he and the other two passengers (one a woman) screamed anti-Semitic insults.

“It was a powerful paint gun with 3/4-inch diameter balls,” said Matos. “It looked like one of those nasty black rifles people call assault rifles.”

Once the shooting began, the Chaverim volunteers used their portable radios to contact fellow members who managed to locate and detain the suspects’ vehicle in nearby Monsey until police arrived and made arrests.

The victim was transported to Nyack Hospital where he was treated for stomach bruises before being released.

Scheduled to be arraigned on second-degree felony assault as a hate crime on Thursday are: Shashi A. Ramsaroop, 23, of Clarkstwon; Lindsey Peaks, 20, of Spring Valley; and Demetrius Latrell Toraine, 19, of Spring Valley.

Police say Ramsaroop in believed to be the shooter.

The NC registration may be insurance fraud since all had NY addresses and should be investigated.

Wonderful outcome! May they be put away for a long time. Thank you to Charverim for risking their lives for others.

These kids should be required to live in a Jewish home for a year. No point locking them up.

We can expect to see more of this. As a Frum parent, I am appalled at how the school board has cut sports and all activities, including summer programs. What are the kids to do when they know their school will not support their needs? We have singlehandedly ruined the school system by our greed. I pay high taxes, but would pay even higher if I were guaranteed the money would be spent ethically. Right now, I feel my tax dollars are being spent without any regard to the law.

This is horrible and it is what I have feared all along. The tensions in Ramapo are beginning to closely model those in Crown Heights years back. So sad.

A good example of why and how hate crime laws should be used. In truth the crime is petty vandalism, a minor offense. It is the sort of thing kids do all the time. But doing such a thing to a religious building, in order to intimidate an entire group, that is a more serious matter.

Obviously, if you kill someone we can presume you hate him. A hate crime charge makes no difference in such a case. But if you vandalize a building like this the additional charge of a hate crime seems like a good idea.

See, my friends, read my comment # 9 how i predicted the comment of “MonseyLuke”.He/she is begging for violence against the frum community in Ramapo just to be able to point fingers on frum people that its all their fault.
If this is not the epitome of a self hating Jew then self hating Jew has no definition.

    These are “Preserve Ramapo” people.

Those three, fine, upstanding and model citizens, should never have been charged with a hate crime! It was all a misunderstanding. After all, Black people should never be charged with a hate crime, since they are incapable of engaging in hate crimes. Don’t forget, that they are oppressed members of a minority, and as such couldn’t possibly engage in such deviant behavior.

Hate crimes are crimes whether they are black or white: What is needed is random acts of loving kindness. I am prepared to teach English , History, Math Ebonics , whatever is needed in an East Ramapo School an hour a day as a volunteer. I am will to put my time into helping public school kids But I am not willing to tack responsibility for bringing over blacks in chains 150 years ago:. Nor am I willing to forego my right as an american to vote for who I want to vote for in any local, national, or state election. Lets save Ramapo together.

I don’t know why I just keep blurting this out. I guess I always go with my instinct. Very telling however, why you bring this up. Very telling. Hmmm…. I guess it is good to go with one’s instinct.
