DAILYMAIL.co.uk (http://dailym.ai/143b3bg) reports that the owners of the property, Amhurst Park Holdings Limited, was fined after failing to address code violations cited by the Hackney Council in 2011.

According to documents, neighbors say the Orthodox Jewish school, Bnois Jerusalem Girls’ School, has been using the residence as classrooms dating back to 2006, often cramming as many as 120 students into the home for lessons.

Years of noise complaints from neighbors ultimately resulted in local officials visiting the property in 2011, where they discovered the violations.

Owners of the building filed an application for permission to use the building as a school, but their application was rejected.

A follow-up visit by officials in July of 2012 found the residence still functioning as a school, and the owners were cited.

In his ruling, Judge Stephen Dawson, of the Snaresbrook Crown Court, said he was “sympathetic” to the fact the building was being used by a school out of necessity, but that “we all should stick to the rules.”

The Judge said in his order, “we all should stick to the rules.”

How dare the judge impose goiyeshe rules on the ehrliche yidden of Stamford Hill? Doesn’t he realize they answer to a higher authority who has apparently given them a heter to ignore dinah d’malchusah in the name of avoiding the costs of complying with the building codes so they can have more girls learning torah in an unlawful school building. What an inspiring example for the yinglach: In order to learn torah we must occasionally break the law…..

    Charedi Playbook:

    1. Move to countries that are free and open and allow freedom of religion.

    2. Take advantage of the country by gaming the system for financial benefits.

    3. Ignore any rules, laws or zoning regulations that you don’t like.

    4. Incur the anger of fellow citizens, be they jewish or not.

    5. Scream ‘anti-semitism’ at the non-jews who object and call the jews ‘self-hating’.

    6. Repeat steps 2-5

Same story in Monsey. Hopefully the election in November will bring new leadership to Ramapo and the frum communities in that town. If not, expect disaster.

Perhaps we should think about what we are ultimately trying to achive – education of our kiderlach. How are they going to learn anything if the educators dont follow the law of the land? The same applies even more so to any halochos – kids learn the most from example – if the parents, teachers & rebbeim are acting correctly, then it is far more likely the kids will do the same – and visa versa.

Can we for just one minute forget the halocho of “Dina DeMalchusa” and perhaps think about what the laws are for – either zoning, or fire safety or other things. They are not just random things to abide by but have a reason: Residential areas/buildings are suppose to be for residents; schools are suppose to have fire safety regulations; the health & safety of our kinderlach who spend most of their waking day sitting a classroom. That alone should be enough of a reason to follow the correct rules, and not stuffing 120 kids into a few bedrooms in a house.

It is not a choice between doing something in a lawful manner or not. It is a choice between doing something in an admittedly unlawful manner or not doing it at all. The community in Stamford Hill simply cannot afford to comply with zoning laws and building standards. Should it therefore give up on chinuch for poor children so as not to breach regulations?

Look what is happening in the town of New Hempstead NY. A few weeks ago an illegal hasidic school with more than 100 boys publicly agreed to vacate a house they were using for a school. The house is a fire trap. The school agreed in public to vacate and yet continues to operate the school as if there was no agreement. Talk about chilul Hashem. If you say you are going to do the right thing and then you do the wrong thing, what does that teach your children? You can’t use Torah to justify every illegal act that you find convenient. Don’t say that because it is religious studies you can ignore the laws everyone else is required to follow.
