Assad’s comments Thursday come at a time of rising expectations of a punitive military strike against Syria by Western powers, in response to suspected poison gas attacks near Damascus last week. The group Doctors Without Borders says the attacks killed 355 people.
U.S. President Barack Obama signaled Wednesday that the U.S. is moving toward a punitive strike, saying he has “concluded” that Assad’s regime is behind the attacks and that there “need to be international consequences.”
Syria’s state news agency SANA quoted Assad as telling a visiting delegation from Yemen that “Syria will defend itself against any aggression.”
I would just like to remind Mr Assad that we’ve heard all this ‘tough’ talk in the past from the likes of Saddam Hussein and strongman Gaddaffi and from Osama bin Ladin and others and we all know where they ended up. Mr Assad would do wise if he just took a look how the US takes care of its enemies he may be able to save himself somewhat….
That’s why Obama is really scared and cannot decide.
We are so used to seeing everything in black and white that we cannot fathom that, in this civil war, there may be 3 sides: Assad, the rebels, and al Qaeda. What if al Qaeda is gassing all those children and making it look like Assad did it?.
