The Conference, held at 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, is an annual event with the goal of reviving Jewish awareness and practice around the world. The events of the conference included a visit to the tomb of the late Rebbe of Lubavitch, a proffesional conference at the New York Marriot hotel, and a Gala Banquet at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal.

In a recorded message Israeli President Shimon Peres praised the Hasidic movement, saying Chabad rabbis arrive to all parts of the globe to save souls and teach Torah, “sometimes in conditions of mortal danger.”In his video remarks to the Annual International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Shluchim,

Israel’s President Shimon Peres reflected on the legacy and leadership of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, and his gift to world Jewry.

“I had the privilege of meeting him and was deeply impressed by the glow of his personality and the strength of his spirit. He lives within us through his great legacy to preserve the Judaism of our people . . .”

“I see you, the Shluchim of Chabad in many places around the world, among them, remote, forsaken and hostile places. You are mitzvah messengers of the Rebbe, of his will that the Jewish People continue and sustained as a nation.” Peres noted that Chabad Shluchim reach Jews who are “widely dispersed around the world. You [the Shluchim] go as pioneers everywhere, create Jewish communities, save lives and disseminate the teachings of the Torah.

“Sometimes you do this under difficult conditions, at times even at mortal risk to yourselves, and indeed there have been sacrifices,” he said, alluding to Gabi and Rivky Holtzberg, the Chabad Shluchim who were murdered by terrorists in Mumbai, in 2008.

Peres thanked the Shluchim, “in the name of the entire nation, for this great mitzvah, for this great legacy. As it says, whoever saved one life of Israel it is as if the entire world was saved. We are a nation that sees in each person a full and whole world.”

When he is asked who is a Jew, said Peres, his response is that “a Jew is one who is concerned that his children and descendants remain Jews, and you are investing in this a lot of heart and much dedication.

“My best blessings to this important Conference. My hope is that you continue in this holy work of yours.”

    Awesome! So beautiful!
But what were all non-Chabads, like Ezra friedlander, doing there? Campaigning for their causes?

Very nice, great yardut be’Israel. I would hope that in a close future edition, they take the time to elect the new Lubbavitcher Rebbi; they don’t have one since 1993. They need a leader that is physically alive or on the long run they may “loose their breath”.

Without question Lubavitch Shluchim are doing awesome work.

Its a Shanda that a gathering of chassidic Jews should have someone like Shimon Peres speak. This convention is a Zionist convention no kavod shemyim can come out from this when a person like Shimon Peres addresses frum yidden.

    Kol Hakavod, Chabad.
Extremely inspiring, to see men with long beards and long coats dancing alongside young men, arms interlocked. There is no generation gap here – there are no head-tables with rows and rows of venerable rabbis. Here, young and old, they sit together, dance together and inspire together. Good for them. Simply beautiful to behold.

Awesome. The greatness of the shluchim amongst everything else is the fact that they
have dedicated their lives to teach and strengthen Yiddishkeit in their respective cities. Just like Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai who was known as “Torosoi Umnosoi”. The Torah was his life. Same with the shluchim they are “Shlichusom Umnoson”. Their shlichus is their life.

I am Not lubavitch. I am a yid though. I don’t like all the labeling. I’m this type of chosid or that type. It creates a feeling I am better. No if your a Torah Jew striving and working to become better that’s it. Let’s put the look at my sect, see how awesome I am aside. If your lubavitch and your living life to increase כבוד שמים that’s awesome. The same holds true w anyone else.
