He told Matt Lauer on NBC-TV’s “Today” show on Monday that imposing mandatory minimum sentences sets up inmates for failure.

Kerik spent three years at a federal minimum-security prison on false statement and other charges.

He says he served time with non-violent inmates, many of them first-time offenders serving long sentences.

He says the system that’s supposed to help inmates destroys them — personally, professionally and financially.

He says Congress needs to do something about it.

As with everything else in the USA, it has become strictly about money. They don’t care if it helps you or not, they don’t care if its logistically the right thing to do and they don’t care if they violate your rights and freedom.

If they make money with it, they run with it! The federal prison system has become a money making machine for the US Government and their job is to put in there as many people as they can.

the “Land of the Free” is a thing of the past. We will wake up when its way way too late

    Takes one to know one.

Judges should spend a month in any prison to know how mean spirited the system is, instead of just incarceration & rehabilitation, they are treated as subhumans, as numbers, with guards picking on inmates for no reason other then belittling them. Their families are just left for the dust to deal with it. Where is the compassion we are taught.

No reason to do this to non violent criminals.

Thugs who murder will get 15 years people like Rubashkin 27 years, makes any sense?
The fact that murdering a person is a STATE crime and people like Rubashkin committed FEDERAL crimes doesn’t change the fact that a person is DEAD and the murderer will get ONLY 15 years.
