Syndney Perry, executive director of the group, said friends contacted her about a letter with labels they recognized. She says her friends were concerned the nonprofit group, which does not back candidates, was taking a political position.

She says only three people have access to the labels and they don’t know how they were used by the Harp campaign.

The letter was signed by Jewish supporters of Harp urging others to back her.

Jason Bartlett, Harp’s campaign manager, told the New Haven Independent the campaign apologizes if a volunteer did something wrong.

Harp, a Democrat, faces petitioning candidate Justin Elicker on Election Day Tuesday.
