The Medical Society of the State of New York, with 25,000 physician members, says pending bills would help end widespread patient confusion like believing an optometrist is a physician.

The legislation would require medical professionals conspicuously post and put on nametags the type of license they hold. It would prohibit misleading information in ads.

The New York Public Interest Research Group says sanctions for misconduct should also be posted, noting that information plus doctor credentials can already be found at New York’s website (http://www.nydoctorprofile.com ).

With all the confusion already with Obamacare and all the best doctors going private, it is very, very important that patients have “a right to know” who they are choosing and what their qualifications really are!
