New York – Licensing insiders say that Orange County’s attempt to land one of the state’s four casino licenses may be put on hold due to the fact that Governor Cuomo is in favor of steering the initial licenses upstate to Sullivan and Ulster County where the region has been harder hit economically.

NYPOST.com (http://bit.ly/1oezzCb) reports that while the state’s Gaming Facility Location Board will make the final call, a source close to the governor said Cuomo is poised to use his influence to make sure the first licenses head upstate.
“He will try to figure out how to put them [farther] upstate,” the source said.
Sources say Catskills/Hudson Valley officials have expressed concern that putting an initial casino in Orange County would greatly diminish the number of New Yorkers who would head upstate to use their facilities.
