Manhattan, NY – NYC staple Katz’s Delicatessen says a Florida restaurant is using its name illegally, hoping to profit from the fame of the Katz’s name.

The New York Post (http://bit.ly/1is31jx) reports Katz’s Delicatessen of Deerfield Beach is using the name without the consent of the original Katz, as stated in a $1 million lawsuit against the pretender.
The suit says Florida’s Katz’s menu states, “Finally, the Unmistakable New York Style Kosher Deli is Right Around the Corner,” but a review on Yelp doesn’t quite agree.
“If you like cold hot dogs, bland matzo ball soup and bad knish this is the place for you. Hope the real Katz has nothing to do with this place,” notes the suit.
Katz’s lawyers claim the owner, Charles Re, ignored a cease and desist letter sent in April.
Katz’s was established on Houston Street in 1888 and has grown into a favorite restaurant for celebrities.

The original New York Katz’s is no great culinary experience any long either, so I’d be careful about comparisons. More importantly, they no longer have chassideshe hashgacha so most frum yidden wouldn’t consider eating there under any circumstances.
Katz’s deli on Houston st is, to the best of my knowledge, kosher-style. They make no claim that the meat they sell is kosher.
There might be other Katz’s but there will never be another Bernsteins.

There are and have been many Katz’s Delis, none of which were kosher as far as I know. I saw them in New Haven and Austin. I think the lawsuit is because the guy mentions New York. The one in New Haven is a few blocks from a true kosher deli, the Westville, which is under a reliable hashgocha.
