Chief Military Rabbi of the IDF Rafi Peretz (L), Rabbi DOv Zinger (C), head of the Mekor CHaim yeshiva, and Sephardi CHief Rabbi David Lau pray alongside Jewish students comforting each other as they attend a prayer at the Mekor Chaim yeshiva, in Kibbutz Kfar Etzion, in the Israeli settlement bloc of Gush Etzion. Two of the three were students at the Mekor Chaim yeshiva. Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau opened the prayer session, asking that students embrace the same positive prayer that helped two Jerusalem brothers recover from being poisoned last year.

IDF Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Rafi Peretz, told students “In the past few days, we have seen an entire nation feel with the same soul. You are here as soldiers and as partners, and you are obligated not only to pray but to hold the nation’s head high in embracing the mutual responsibility we have for [all Jews] during these difficult times.”

Is there any reason the hundreds of bochurim shown in these photos could not be out helping to search for the captives rather than sitting in the beis hamedrash davening. The more eyes that are looking, the greater the likelihood of finding them. Yes you can daven, but the pictures of the guitars and other instruments make this look more like a kumzitz rather than a national emergency.

The chief rabbi is mugging for the camera here. Not a tear from him. He’s not calling for Teshuva or for not recruiting lomdei torah to the IDF.
