Sandeep Singh, 29 and father of two, was hit and dragged by a pickup truck after being told to “go back to your country, bin Laden,” According to a statement by the Sikh Coalition.
DNAinfo New York reports that (http://dnain.fo/1mk8Ot3) an NYPD spokesman said that the investigation is not being looked into as a hate crime, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Police say that white pickup truck was forced to stop as Singh and his friends were crossing the street. That’s when the driver made the comment about bin Laden and Singh protested. The driver then ran him over and dragged him for approximately 30 feet. The driver then fled the scene.
Singh’s wife said her husband underwent stomach surgery due to internal bleeding and is recovering.
Police described the truck as a light colored 2007-2009 GMC 1500 Series Sierra pick-up.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS, or submit information via the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.

We live in a crazy world
The Sikhs have had very hard times with the hate from the moslem reprisals that exist. This is very horrible. I have found that Sikhs have usually been friendly at most levels in my lifetime. I am always very upset to see this sort of hate reprisal against an innocent faith. This is horrible.
I’m glad that he wasn’t killed. The Sikh generally seem like nice people.
I hope the NYPD will make an arrest soon. How many light colored 2007-2009 GMC 1500 Series Sierra extended-cab short-bed pickups are there in New York City?
