Hikind is projected to win in a landslide. With 88% of the vote counted at this hour, Hikind leads Caller 77% by 23%.

Hikind, who has run unopposed for years, was challenged by real estate developer Nachman Caller in a hotly contested battle to represent residents of Borough Park, Mapleton and parts of Midwood.

Hikind campaigned on his over 30 years of service to the community, pointing to his record of accomplishments benefitting his constituents and vowed to fight tenaciously for the Education Investment Tax Credit upon his return to Albany.

The Caller campaign focused on alleviate the housing shortage in the district, vowing to build 2,000 additional units and also touted Caller’s experience as a real estate and a Torah scholar, positioning him as a candidate who was closely attuned to the needs of the Jewish community.

Hikind won his assembly seat in 1982, succeeding Assemblyman Samuel Hirsch.

Hikind’s victory comes on the heels of a fierce campaign launched by Caller, which included a 16 page housing plan as well as countless brochures and pamphlets distributed throughout the district’s Jewish community.

Good luck for all NORMAL people in the community.

And now we need to petition DAVID GREENFELD our city conceilman and chair of Zoning commission, HE should rezone 60 & 61 st from commercial to R8 (without the need to pay Bribe to his lobbist friends).

Thank you Dov for all you have done! You truly deserve to serve us as long as you deliver!!
As for housing if there is a solution available im sure your working on it as well.

Id suggest to work that the MTA should redo the tracks that makes such LOUD noises on new utrect ave and on mcdonald ave. Then we can have thousands of heimisha people living under the tracks thats currently filled with 99% goyim.

Never really understood why Nachman C needed this at his stage of life. Unless being the king of condo/co-op law he’d make a ton of $ on the ‘Plan’, while his son, Moishe, would develop/build .
The pipe-dream ‘plan’ being the only platform he was running on, was obviously not enough to lead the voters to turn their backs on Dov (now that the election is over, we can take back the ‘Smicha’ he was crowned with last week!) who has served us well for three and a half decades.
And lastly, while it is true that there is a shortage of available housing, I don’t believe that bottle-necking our already overcrowded streets is the answer. We are simply saturated; and 2000 more apartments would’ve choked us completely!

    (1) Major blow for David Greenfield. Behind the scenes, he was working for Nachman, so he could be the power broker. He’s going to have to wait.

    (2) When Obama came in, everyone was elated. Several years later…… Hikind can not produce with sanitation, can not produce the tax credit… & so WE are the real losers.

    (3) Hikind is the “Baal Hamachshir” for maimonides, in exchange for him sponsoring his radio show. Now we will have more years of terrible service at Maimonides. Thanks Dov!

We all owe Nachman Caller a big Yasher Koach. Thanks to CALLER, lazy Dov Hikind actually worked hard and now PROMISED to deliver lower yeshiva tuition in 2015 AND garbage trucks driving at night instead of the day. We will hold him to his PROMISES.

it became impossible to unseat a incumbent.

To bad for all the “mosdos.” Hikind’s margin of victory means that none of them really mattered and he doesn’t need to make them happy. Sorry Bobov, Belz & Satmar. –

Senator Felder’s win is a significant one since the balance of the State Senate might be in his hands, if the democrats and republicans end up winning the same amount of seat

I just have to assume Mr. Caller’s supporters haven’t tried to rent an apartment in Boro park recently. I agree there isn’t a glut of apartments but there are some IF you can pay the price. This is the problem. B”h I made a few weddings .in our circles we help set up the couple’s first apartment the cost becomes part of the wedding expenses. But what happens 3-4 years later when the couple has to look for a bigger apartment. Can they afford a $2,500 – $3000 a month rent plus the first month a security deposit. And with my last wedding I found out you have to go through a broker which is an additional month rent. Where does a kollel man or even someone at new low paying job get that kind of money. This is why the young couples are moving out NOT because there are no apartments. They go to Lakewood where you can pay $1000 – 1250 for a 3 bedroom apartment and have a parking space too. A second thing which I found is there are people who advertise 2 or 3 bedroom apartment and you find that all they did was divide a room or call a walk in closet a bedroom or they advertise freshly painted only to find the wall are white washed.

In response to “You cant unseat an incumbent”:

Lots of incumbents were unseated in the US!

It became impossible to unseat a incumbent. only in certain areas where people dont read the secular papers much like in frum areas, and the frum papers dont say anything negative unless you are proven guilty of murder, and even then they hesitate.

    way to go Dov…

I never thought the housing issue would get Caller into office, and his basing the campaign on it was a puzzle to me. Who says that cramming more young couples into Boro Park is to everyone’s benefit. Maybe they should live in Lakewood or elsewhere out of town, and have living expenses that are more within their means. Maybe they do not need to have all their meals at their parents or in-laws, and they should establish their own homes. Maybe they need to minimize their dependencies on their parents and in-laws a little so they can start life with normalcy. So Caller felt different about that? Do we really need to have homes where your soup makes waves in your bowl because a subway train is passing by?

B”H that we can keep Dov, who works so hard for our community.

Now, can the Caller campaign staff who littered the streets with their flyers, pamphlets, plus tearing down Dov’s signs that were hanging, please clean up the mess? That should be their job, not Sanitation.

Despite the fact that Dov acts more like he represents the people of Gush Katif than of Brooklyn USA, we still dodged a bullet on this one. Caller is totally unsuited for the job. He would have been an embarrassment. I have no idea why he even thought of running.

At the end of the day Dov is an effective representative. I once walked in to his office on 13th Avenue with a problem I had with the city. His people got on it right away and he called me back personally that the matter was settled.

I think that this race was more telling about David Greenfield. The fact that he would secretly support a total incompetent due to his personal ambitions tells a lot about how much he really cares about his constituents.

Caller picked the wrong opponent to run against this time.

Maybe next time he can run for a different office, with a bigger agenda ,not just housing?

One comment re term limits. Yes its a nice idea but not on the local level. A guy like Dov whether you love or hate him is hooked up. Hiliary Clinton most probably the 2016 president has campigned with Dov. Sometimes you need someone who knows the big guns.

At least Hikind can see that not 100% of Boro Park thinks he is doing something for us.
