The New York Post (http://bit.ly/1zkvNfu) reports the MTA is also thinking about raising the cash rate to $8 on bridges such as the RFK, Throgs Neck and Bronx-Whitestone.
Another proposal includes trucks getting hit with an increase, but not drivers of cars using E-ZPass or cash.
MTA officials are also considering increasing the pay for subway and bus riders before they receive a bonus amount on Metro-Cards. One
proposal would increase the bonus from 5 to 11 percent.
In the second proposal, the fare would not increase, but the pay-per-ride bonus would be removed.
Half of the Metro-Cards used weekly or monthly cards, and the other half are pay-per-ride cards. The weekly card rates will go from $30 to $31, and monthly rates would rise from $112 to $116.50 in either proposal.
Did it ever go down…..
People want lower gas taxes. Smaller cars use less gas and so pay less in tax. The cost of road and bridge repairs go up. Increasing user fees lets elected officials say that they did not raise taxes.
