Sustainable Saratoga wants the city of Saratoga Springs to pass an ordinance to ban thin-film bags, the type used to carry out purchases at supermarkets and other stores.

The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports that the group intends to present its plan to the City Council during its meeting on Dec. 2.

Sustainable Saratoga is a nonprofit that promotes sustainable living by reducing the human impact on natural resources.

San Francisco passed the first local ban on plastic bags in 2007. Next summer, California’s statewide ban goes into effect.

Several bills that would authorize a statewide fee on single-use plastic bags continue to languish in the New York state Legislature.

As usual, the commies have nothing better to do with their time, other than interfering with other people’s lives

There is nothing wacko or commie about this. Sheesh! I don’t know about you, but my grandmothers managed quite well to shop before there were plastic bags. We’ve had a similar ban out here in Silicon Valley and NO ONE is complaining, having trouble shopping, or unable to buy food, and no businesses have been affected. In fact, the industry for non-disposable bags has mushroomed and these bags are frequently given out as advertising. The issue is pollution. Plastic bags do not degrade and fill our landfills, form floating masses in the ocean, cover our beaches. I have no clue why certain VIN posters have so little value for the quality of life for the people of this world, not to mention the animals. This is such a small adjustment to make with such a large benefit.
