Talmud Torah Zichron Gavriel was closed last week at the order of Local Council Chairman Eli Abutbul because of alleged repeated harassment of two brothers. While the student body is primarily Ashkenazi and the family in question is of Mizrahi background.

Sources say the family of the boys were not considered “ultra-Orthodox” enough to attend the school, reports Haaretz (http://bit.ly/1yEAcrt).

The father of the boys stated in a message sent to a relative that he and the boys’ grandfather were emotionally troubled by the harassment and had chosen to leave.

After a rumor spread that the father told the Education Ministry about the harassment of the children, the family was subjected to graffiti on their home, broken flowerpots in the yard and stones being thrown at them on the street.

The school reopened on Wednesday. Abutbul said he agreed to reopen after receiving commitments from the administration in writing that there would be no future discrimination.

Abutbul also said he spoke to the father on Tuesday, who said his children were happy to return to school. Since then, he has not answered his phone, said Abutbul.

So they were not liked at school because they are modern, not because they are mizrachi. Then what is the purpose of the irrelevant statement “the student body is primarily Ashkenazi and the family in question is of Mizrahi background?” Just to create an appearance that the Jews who learn and live Torah are intolerant?

how absolutely disgusting I once tried to “red a shidduch” for a young girl whose parents are ashkesfardi one parent being a relative of the Baba Sali. The boy’s family absolutely refused! I was shocked at the vehemence of their reply. I even told them, the Rambam was from Spain—that the gemara originally came from a Sefardic country, but no avail I was tremendously hurt by their refusal without even doing any checking. Never mind the fact the all the kids went to ashkenazi bais yaakovs and yeshivas. Baruch Hashem, they are both married now and evidently it wasn’t the right shidduch, but the animosity was very hurtful. In our family we have sefardic in laws, chassidishe in laws, Lubavitcher in laws and Carlebach in laws One more to marry off–maybe it will be litvish and we will have all grounds covered.
Such Sin’as Chinum–Hashem is not happy Don’t these people understand that this is why so many go off the derech? Sin’as chinum. all the teaching in school seems to amount to nothing. As my 92 year old mother, biz 120, says–“how can Moshiach come when we hate each other so much I saw too much hate in the camps but to see it from our own really hurts”

Ahavas Yisroel brings Moshiach. That is our job now – to do whatever we can to bring Moshiach. Learning about Moshiach bring Moshiach. Whatever we learn about the concepts of Moshiach and Geula will help us to implement those ideas and bring Moshiach. This is the call of the hour.

    #3 has got it right.
Here in the States I am Litvish, yeshivish, considered Ultra-Orthodox, Hareidi, etc., but my children would never be accepted into this town’s yeshiva as I wouldn’t be frum enough for them. It’s not a matter of Ashkenazi vs Sefardi. It’s just a case of typical Israeli Hareidi super narrow mindedness.
This is a phony charge of racism just to make the hareidim look bad.

When all these children learn to play together, then you will have peace and understanding, not before. They should not be overly influenced by their parents!!
