Paris – President Francois Hollande, once the most unpopular French leader in his country’s modern history, is getting a major boost in popularity following his response to the terror attacks that shook the nation.

The Ifop-Fiducial poll released Monday for Paris Match magazine asked, “‘Do you approve or disapprove of the actions of Francois Hollande as president?” Hollande’s rating jumped an unprecedented 21 percentage points — from 19 percent in December to 40 percent after the three days of attacks that began Jan. 7 and left 20 people dead, including three gunmen. Fifty-nine percent still disapproved.
Approval of Prime Minister Manuel Valls rose to 61 percent in the same survey of 1,003 people by telephone. The margin of error was not reported.
Even though Hollande is a leftist, he was still honest enough to categorize the attacks as Muslim Terrorism, not as, “workplace violence.” For that alone, he deserved this 19 percent boost in ratings.
