Jerusalem – A bus ad campaign advertising through the streets of Jerusalem is pushing for modesty, stating that, “Short clothing shortens life.”

Ads including the slogan were on about 20 Egged buses last week, reports Ynet News (http://bit.ly/1IYOeLS). The ads included a caption stating that the campaign’s purpose is the “transcendence of the soul of the Har Nof righteous,” referring to the the worshippers who were killed at the Jerusalem synagogue in November.
Secular activists have since filed complaints with the Cnaan Media company, who is responsible for the bus ads.
The person responsible for the ads said the attacks at Har Nof forced all religious Jews to focus on “self-examination” and that the ultra-Orthodox should be encouraged to enforce rules of modesty.
“It’s clear that those who were murdered did not receive a punishment they deserved,” he said. “They were righteous people. They woke up to pray at 6 am. They are public victims, and it happened to them because of us, because of our acts. A person cannot say that he doesn’t care. It’s cruelty. When you deteriorate, it’s God’s severe judgment which has the final word.”
He continued to say that the ads were only directed at the haredi public, not seculars and that if he finds it on buses ridden by secular Jews, he’ll ask that the signs be removed.
Hypocrites. But the secular are allowed to force Egged to have immodest ads go through charedi neighborhoods.
Amazing….these Chareidi idiots will attack and vandalize buses carrying ads that they deem “offensive” but somehow Eged feels it necessary to accept ads from some Chareidi who trashes the memory of the kadoshim of har nof through these disgusting insinuations that their deaths were the result of a lack of focus on tzinius ?? The advertising manager at Eged who accepted these ads should be thrown under the bus and the Chareidim who planted these ads invite really bad outcomes for themselves

I guess you have to live outside eretz Yisrael to realize how ridiculous “different buses for different kinds of Jews” sounds. I can relate to targeted advertising. But not targeted transportation.
We live in such a messed up world and this is what we fight about? Grow up!!!

People should have a little more seichel than stupid comments like the one on the bus. Educate, yes, but using scare tactics is foolish.
The guy has a right to pay to have whatever he wants up, as long as its not hate speech like the Christians do here on billboards. However the idea of tying the killings in har nof to tsnius or any avaira is not acceptable even when prominent Rabonim have done so in the past. His message should be teshuva in general, each for his own package.
Who is the “navi” that decided “immodest dress” was the cause of the attack at Har Nof? Does this genius also think “immodest dress” caused The Holocaust? This is just taking the terrorists off the hook as the real perpetrators of the atrocity and blaming innocent people who had nothing to do with it.
How is this campaign any different than the “Stop talking in shul” ads we’ve been seeing online and in publications?

Telling women how to dress is a fool’s errand.
One of the most valuable benefits of allowing free speech is that it soon becomes clear that people say whatever they want, and seeing something in print or an ad or book is not evidence that it is true at all. It is more likely to be absurd. Erdogan says Israel is responsible for all terrorism in the Middle East. Sharpton says whatever he says. Talk is cheap. If you want to know what’s true, you have to put the work in. Don’t be like the impressionable mob whose will can be so easily manipulated. Who cares what the ad says?????
It is always good to do teshuva – but to demand that the other person does the teshuva is a bit outrageous.
There are 613 mitzvos – and among them… honesty, integrity, no lashon harah, no misleading anyone…. all areas could use some improvement.
When a person singles out the women, it always makes me nervous and makes me think he has too much time on his hands. As it is, the women have taken on many many of the men’s responsibilities, and they’re still not happy.
