Berlin – Germany’s top human rights official has urged Israel to cooperate with the International Criminal Court probe into possible war crimes in the Palestinian territories.

After the investigation was announced last week, Israel’s government immediately said it would not work with The Hague-based court and called for its funding to be cut.
The government’s human rights commissioner, Christoph Straesser, said in an interview published Tuesday that Israel’s reaction was counter-productive.
Straesser told ipg-journal, published by a center-left think tank, that “Israel has launched its own investigations and should in my view cooperate with the International Criminal Court.”
He added that “as far as the effort to suspend funding for the court goes, I can only warn against adopting this proposal.”
Is the German official on drugs? Do the rational Europeans not see the script playing out on the world scene? It’s time for the Israelis to lock themselves out of world political events and live as they see fit.

First, Israel has several times suffered by shunning international investigatory bodies. If the Israelis were to be openly transparent they should have nothing to lose. Assuming that their case is as they have presented it, the investigation will either support their position, or be a blatant distortion of public record.
Second…your distortion of present day Germany is just that…a gross distortion. Germany has been and remains one of the few reliable partners Israel has in the world today.
