The California Democrat told reporters Thursday that Boehner should have consulted first with other congressional leaders. And she said the timing of the proposed speech on March 3 is not appropriate because Netanyahu stands for election a few weeks later and could benefit politically from the rare honor of addressing Congress.

Boehner announced Wednesday that he’d invited Netanyahu to address Congress and push for new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

The Obama administration has bristled at the move as a breach of protocol. Boehner has denied “poking anyone in the eye.”

In 1994 elections the Republicans wrestled control of the Congress from those days scoundrels Clinton, Tom Foley and George Mitchell. Unfortunately, Clinton himself was still at large. Shortly after that, the Republican Congress invited then newly elected Prime Minister, coincidentally, Netanyahu, to speak to the Joint Session. Clinton didn’t like it, everyone knew it, but he didn’t make a big deal over it like today’s much less manly crying babies.

The Congress gave Netanyahu many a standing ovation, especially for the platitudes such as “There are no terms in Hebrew language for ‘free enterprise’ and ‘free market’ but by the end of my term in office, there will be!” Didn’t work out that way, Israel is still not a free market economy now, 20 years later, but… the fun was had by all. Brack has a lot to learn about saving face… although his is probably beyond rescue.

As far as I recall, the Congress of the U.S. is a CO-EQUAL branch of the federal government. Calling the Congress’s invitation to Netanyahu “inappropriate” is nothing short of childish petulance. The Democrats are now overwhelmed by the new-found power of the congressional Republican majority, but thankfully, all they can do is kick and scream to little effect…much as the Israeli left is presently kicking and screaming as they face overwhelming rejection at the polls this coming March.

Pelosi is lecturing to anyone? She is the one that insisted that Congress should vote on a bill without reading it. And she claims the moral standing to make opinions about this? This world has gone berserk!

Obama can try to pass all his unconstitutional executive orders but he cries like a baby when the Speaker of the House makes a fully acceptable Constitutional move, an invitation to the leader of a close U.S. Ally.

    To #5 and #8 :

Yes, there are 3 co-equal branches. But each have different responsibilities.

Article 1 Section 8 lists the powers of Congress.
Some people say that these are the ONLY enumerated powers of the legislature.
Others say that it is the &#8 216;elastic&#8 217; clause &#8 230; it just give some guidance and examples what powers can the Congress can do.

It seems to me, when the Democrats are in power of Congress, the GOP complains that the Dems are expanding their power (like using their power of taxing to implement Obamacare.)

When the Republicans are in power of Congress, the Dems complain that they are expanding their power.

In reality, Congress has relinquished many of its powers for decades. (E.g.: Making the President create a budget. Or declare war. Stoopid.)

And THIS Congress has relinquished its main responsibility &#8 230; to legislate.

And maybe that is why our (founders | framers | fathers) did not want political parties.
