In the piece (http://nydn.us/1L51kZS), Brodsky argues that an experienced speaker affects the lives of the public as far as schools, taxes, and the all-important governor’s budget goes.
The legislature has just started reviewing the parts of the budget that need amendments, and important factors that affect the public are at stake – standardized testing and teacher evaluation, minimum wage, city aid, pieces of Mayor de Blasio’s agenda, use of a $5 billion one-time surplus from bank settlements, Tappan Zee Bridge developments and more.
Silver is an experienced speaker who according to Brodsky, has been one of the best negotiators for years. Assembly weakness will be taken advantage of and an inexperienced speaker will surely lose the fight.
Public appearances and ethics and disclosure reforms probably won’t go over so well; but as far as the budget is concerned, Silver may be the best man for the job to argue for a budget that works for the citizens.
His point ,is exactly the problem !!! 1 person making decisions that effect everyone .Pretty close to dictatorship .Sorry that might be a bit harsh .But you get the idea .
