Gov. Andrew Cuomo says highway message boards throughout the state will bear the message “Stay Awake, Stay Alive” to discourage drowsy driving.
According to Cuomo’s Traffic Safety Committee, young male drivers have the highest risk of fatigue-related crashes.
The administration says tricks like turning on the radio or opening a car window don’t work, and that the only way drivers can deal with fatigue is by finding a safe place to pull over and sleep.
In 2013, 3,244 crashes were reported involving a driver who fell asleep and another 1,228 in which drowsiness or fatigue was cited as a contributing factor.
What works is talking on the phone, governor.
As someone whom drives a lot, I am keenly aware of this dangerous problem. I try to pull over immediately and rest. Even a half hr. nap can help immensely. When driving their is very little room for error.
Governor, now is also a good time to remind the state to fix the treacherous potholed roads that knock the daylights out of the cars, help parochial school parents that are saving the city millions and allow them to finally see daylight, find the perpertrators of those knockout crimes against elderly jews and make sure they don’t see daylight again, and bring down those real estate taxes that have skyrocketed clear as daylight. These are the things we need you for. We don’t need you to do what the media does 24-7. Remind us to drive safely and change the batteries in our smoke alarms.
