The escalators form two spiral staircases circling the central atrium. The Shanghai mall was the largest order for Mitsubishi Electric, the only producer of spiral escalators in the world, according to Gizmodo (http://bit.ly/1H1ZV5O).

Mitsubishi Electric (http://bit.ly/1xy4tIX) says the spiral staircases serve six floors of the 12-floor department store. The company has distributed 103 units worldwide since developing the first spiral escalator in 1985.

A few spiral escalators in the U.S. can be found in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace Forum Shops according to Gizmodo.
