Toronto, Ontario – he 2014 Toronto Police annual hate crime report showed that the most victimized group in the city was the Jewish community, with the LGBTQ and black communities coming in second and third respectively.

The number of hate crimes jumped to 146 in 2014, compared to 131 in 2013, reports the Toronto Sun (http://bit.ly/1AJThKp). The total number of people arrested also went up to 22 arrests in 2014 from 17 in 2013.
According to the report, religion was the dominant factor behind 63 of last year’s hate crimes.
The most prevalent offences in 2014 in Toronto were 93 instances of mischief to property, 23 assaults and 10 instances of criminal harassment. In 44 occurrences, the Jewish community was targeted with hate crimes; the LGBTQ community experienced 27 occurrences; and the Muslim community was targeted with hate crimes 16 times.
The results of the report are on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting of the Toronto Police Services Board
