New York, NY – The conflict between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio could come to a head with the governor’s addition of a new state trooper barracks in New York City, doubling the amount of state police in the city.

Cuomo recently sent a team to scout Manhattan to find a new location for the barracks, reports the New York Post (http://bit.ly/1LD03rq). The team has looked at sites at 4 World Trade Center and a Port Authority property on Park Avenue.
There are approximately 50 state troopers helping MTA police keep subway and train platforms safe since the fall, when Cuomo upped the number of state officers in the city after heightened threats of ISIS terrorism.
The state will continue to pay for lodging for the troopers until the new barracks are built, but it’s unclear when that will happen. To date, New York State has paid hundreds of thousands to provide lodging for the troopers. The officers usually spend about two weeks in the city at a cost of about $180 per night.
The State Trooper’s office on Wards Island is mostly used by administrative staff and investigators.

There is plenty of free and available space on the former Coast Guard Station of Governor’s Island right in the harbour.
Why not house them on Rikers Island???
Close to the city, provides extra security at night, food kitchens already set up, and you can set aside a dormitory and extra rooms away from the prisoners and noise.
i have seen these state “troopers” like the NYPD they have much “diversity” and overweight females, does not make me feel safe.
