The Daily News (http://nydn.us/1E5TPfy ) says Sen. Jose Peralta is proposing a bill that would require more state forms to include a registration line for the “donate life registry” for organ, eye and tissue donations.
Currently, the registration line appears on driver licenses and voter registration forms.
Peralta says only 24 percent of eligible New Yorkers are registered to donate organs. The national average is 54 percent.
The Democrat says more than 1,600 state residents received life-saving organs in 2013 but 600 died waiting.
Peralta is scheduled to announce his proposal at a news conference Tuesday.
It saddens me to think about how many people die every year waiting for a transplant because millions of people refuse to be donors, simply because of old superstitions about the body needing its organs after death. Very sad indeed
It sounds good. I just wonder if there is a clause requesting that a specific clergyman or religious organization or family member give the go ahead before the organs are harvested.
According to strickt halacha is there a way to do it? Anyone knows? I grew up knowing that its אסור. Plesse specify the Rabbi if you quote. Thanks
