WSJ.com (http://on.wsj.com/1Wh4QWM) reports that the move is just the latest in an ongoing legal battle between the board—which is predominantly Orthodox Jewish and whose children attend private religious schools—and local parents who have accused the board of misdirecting public school funding to benefit private institutions.
An announcement is anticipated Thursday by Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch who is scheduled to speak in Rockland County, but despite a request from the DOE that the board issue “no comment,” board President Yehuda Weissmandi will be in attendance.
Steven White, who has lobbied actively for a house-cleaning at the board, said a monitor without veto power is “a good step but certainly not enough.”

No other school district needs a PRO firm.
