Oneida County sheriff’s deputies say Rome police officer Mark Fanfarillo found 4-month-old Michael inside the vehicle Monday afternoon and called 911.

The child was rushed to Rome Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say Michael was left in his father’s vehicle for an “extended period of time.” Michael’s father, a 10-year veteran of the Rome Police Department, was responsible for watching him at the time.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death.

    No charges have been filed.

I can’t believe no charges why no charges were filed? Is it because the Father is a cop? Are we going to hear the same ridiculous excuses, as we did last week, when a similar death to an infant occurred in EY? Parents who cause the death of their children, by leaving them to die in a sweltering car, should be shown no mercy, and no rachmonis! I don’t want to hear excuses for them, as there are ZERO excuses, for such cases, which are criminally negligent homicide.

It would be a good idea if you do a little research and read about the horrific experiences of parentsome the lost their children in this tragic kind of death. You should have a lot of rachmunos because this parent is going to suffer for the rest of his life with guilt and the loss of his own child. We all would like to believe we would never make such a horrible mistake. Most cases happened to normal parents that had somehow a different schedule than normal that threw them off.

To #4 - What about the suffering and painful death of the infant? What about the rights of the child?

To #1 - You are a lost cause. I won’t even dignify your despicable answer with a response!!!

Is 80 degrees actually that dangerous for infants? How much time, on average, can they tolerate it? Is being in a car worse than at home at the same temperature?

Before air-conditioning or even fans were commonplace, reaching that temperature was not unusual in many regions during the summer, especially indoors. How did infants survive?

Parked cars, especially cars parked in a sunny spot get much hotter than the outside temperature.

To all smart commenters- have you ever forget your credit card in a store? Or your phone? Not even your keys? How about a bag of merchandise you just paid for?Obviously Mendelowitz has had some sort of trauma involving a child because it is human to err, and not everyone needs to be charged and punished for a horrific mistake. And yes even in 80 degree weather the inside of a sun baked car can reach over 100 within a half hour. Cop or no cop , 99.9% of these cases do not involve intentional neglect.
