The incident occurred Monday night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

A witness told the New York Post (http://nyp.st/2iYQigB ) the fracas began when the JetBlue crew asked people who’d paid for extra legroom to switch seats because of weight and balance issues.

The Republican ex-senator, who was in a regular seat, led a chant, “make them move.”

Video showed D’Amato yelling “We can still speak in this country” as he was led away. He urged others to “walk out” in solidarity. A man followed him.

D’Amato’s spokesman said he was sleep-deprived after visiting an ailing friend.

JetBlue said passengers can be removed if there’s a situation that could escalate in the air.

Passengers were given $100 credit for the delay. But it was unclear if D’Amato got the consolation prize.

D’Amato should be glad that he was not arrested. It is not cool, to start a commotion on a commercial aircraft, even if you are in the right. The best thing to do is to take them to court. I did that (Small Claims Court), with a major commercial airline, and the airline settled with me (a substantial amount), before we even went to court. In addition to a refund, which the airline tried to scam me out of, I made the airline pay for the summons, as well as the notary fee to file the summons.
