It said in a statement that a vessel deviated from Gaza’s fishing zone Monday and continued its advance despite warning calls and shots in the air urging it to stop. Soldiers then shot at the vessel wounding one man who later died in a hospital. The military said it is reviewing the incident.
The Gaza-based Palestinian Center for Human Rights said several boats were chased in separate incidents over the past 24 hours.
Israel set a limit on the fishing area for Hamas-ruled Gaza after the Islamic militant group seized it from forces of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in 2007. Earlier this month, Israel increased the fishing area from six to nine nautical miles.
The Israeli armed forces have to be extra careful – the slightest mistake can mean death. If the evidence shows that warnings were issued and ignored, then they were justified in opening fire. The “fishing boat” could have been loaded with bombs. Even if a probe proves that it really was just a fishing boat, rules are rules.
Let’s examine this. The Israeli army gets a complaint and actually investigates it. NO one looked for the shooting officer to brand him as a hero, and no one rushes to either condemn him or exonerate him. If this situation was reversed, the Palis would be celebrating the death of an Israeli, and they would never investigate whether the shooter behaved legitimately. In their world, any way that an Israeli meets with death is a celebration, and the perpetrator is a hero. That is why they reward and incite terror. What a bunch of subhuman, bloodthirsty savages.
