Washington – President Donald Trump has become increasingly frustrated by the situation in Afghanistan and has recently floated a change in command.

NBC News reports that Trump fumed during a meeting last month over the country’s lack of progress. The network says he also proposed firing Army Gen. John Nicholson, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan.
The U.S. has been fighting in Afghanistan for nearly 16 years. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said as recently as June that “we are not winning.” Trump has yet to settle on a new strategy.
National Security Council Michael Anton says in a statement in response to the NBC story that “the president’s team continues to develop options for him that address threats and opportunities to America arising from this vital region.”
What can we expect, when we elect a tempestuous teenager to be the Commander in Chief.
The only way to win in Afghanistan is to leave.

Pull out of Afghanistan, as the Ruskies did in 1989. It is a non-win situation, as Vietnam, and Iraq were. Those savages cannot be trusted, as so-called friendly forces kill American troops at will. They don’t want us there, and prefer to live in the stone age. The same holds true for Iraq, where almost every week, suicide bombers blow dozens of civilians up. There are rotted bridges, roads, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals, and horrible passenger train service in this country. Our infrastructure is falling apart. The money which is being invested in the Middle East, on those savages, could be better spent at home.

Afghanistan, like Israel, is in a confluence of many ancient trade routes. Alexander the Great, having fought there, said “Afghanistan is easy to march into, hard to march out of.” Of interest, “the name was used to refer to a common legendary ancestor known as “Afghana”, grandson of King Saul of Israel.” Mountainous and wild, it has frustrated multiple conquerers. The US is only the latest to learn this truism.
What would “win the war” mean, at at what cost? To gain what?
To #14 - I remember, back in 1965,that we heard the same propaganda from the politicians; namely, that if we didn’t stop the communists in Vietnam, that they would come to the West Coast. It was a bunch of (expletive deleted) then, and it is a bunch of nonsense now. Thousands of lives were lost for nothing in Vietnam (on all sides), in the invasion of Iraq and the staying there for over eight years, plus the sixteen year no-win war in Afghanistan. The same holds true for the Korean War; thousands of Americans were lost in a non-win war. The South Korean younger generation hates us, and want us to pull out.
