MAILBAG: Kiddush Hashem On Craigslist

0

Passaic – I recently found something I wanted to purchase on Craigslist, but the seller lived in Clifton, and I was not going to travel in from Brooklyn for that. I have a sister who lives in Passaic, though, who could possibly pick up the item for me if it was close enough, so I got in touch with the seller to ask for more information. We exchanged general neighborhoods, and saw that the pickup would be doable for my sister.

I informed the seller that my sister would be able to pick up the item, but not this week, and asked if I could be in touch with her after the weekend. She responded, “I have a question for you. Is your sister Orthodox?” I got a little nervous when she asked that; I wondered where she was going with this question, and merely responded, “Yes.”

Within a few minutes she emailed me back, “The reason I asked is that my best customers are Orthodox, as is my sister, and are very reliable.” She continued, “I asked because if your sister said she would pick up the books, I know that she can be counted on. So far, all of my Orthodox customers have showed up when they said they were going to and on time, which is amazing. I have been selling toys and books from my garage for about 7 years.”

I was so proud of our fellow Jews in Clifton and Passaic, who have been making such a Kiddush Hashem all these years! Halevei that all interactions with others reveal such positive views toward our communities! Let’s all continue doing our part to make that a reality.
