Jerusalem – The Blue and White Part announced on Tuesday evening that its official website was exposed to “a significant cyber attack,” of the distributed denial of attack type, or DDOS.

“Over 500 attempted attacks have been identified from various servers abroad. The estimated cost of the attack is estimated at tens of thousands of shekels,” the party said.

The website went down approximately three hours before polls were scheduled to close in Israel.

Israel cyber experts warned that the national elections on Sept. 17 could be exposed to numerous cyber attacks, as well as attempts to sway voters.

“Today, through social networks, it is possible to spread false rumors, promote ‘fake news,’ incite and radicalize discourse, cause harm to candidates and parties, widen social rifts and plunge election campaigns into an abyss of extremism, distrust, sectarianism and violence,” Dr. Gabriel Weimann, a professor of communications at the University of Haifa, told The Jerusalem Post.
