PHOENIX (AP) — Presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday that the United States needs “an awful lot more immigrants rather than less.”

On his second day campaigning for the Democratic nomination, the former New York City mayor contrasted his views on immigration with President Donald Trump’s restrictive policies and laid out a vision of a multicultural society enriched by immigrants.
“We need immigrants to take all the different kinds of jobs that the country needs — improve our culture, our cuisine, our religion, our dialogue and certainly improve our economy,” the billionaire told reporters at a Mexican restaurant in Phoenix.
He blasted Trump’s policies that resulted in the separation of families arriving on the border.
“Ripping kids away from their parents is a disgrace,” he said.
Bloomberg reiterated his Nov. 17 apology for supporting New York’s stop-and-frisk police strategy, a practice that he embraced as mayor and continued to defend despite its disproportionate impact on people of color.
He said it was a mistake but also credited it with reducing New York’s murder rate.
“How many times do you hear elected officials say, ‘I made a mistake’?” Bloomberg said. “None of us do everything perfectly. I’m sorry it happened, I can’t rewrite history. Let’s get on with it.”
Bloomberg spoke in the back of a small restaurant in a heavily Latino area a few miles east of downtown Phoenix, the type of community that has helped propel Democrats to success after decades of Republican domination in Arizona. Latinos organized against a tough 2010 immigration law and against Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s immigration patrols, the latter of which was struck down in the courts for racial profiling.
Arizona has received scant attention form the Democrats running for president, but Bloomberg has put a heavy focus in a state he said will be crucial to the general election. It’s one of four states where his campaign said it’s pouring $100 million into anti-Trump digital ads, and one of five where the campaign says it will push to register voters.
His comments seem obviously true. Immigrants are great.

Prior to the Wilson Administration, immigration into the U.S. was fairly unrestricted and the millions of immigrants, including our fathers, grandfathers et al, were undoubtedly an asset to the Nation. The current immigration laws are basically the same as those passed in 1921 which severely limited immigration, particularly from eastern and southern Europe and , not coincidentally, doomed millions of Jews to death at the hands of the Nazis Y”S. The Nation would, unquestionably, benefit by the relaxation of the current immigration laws allowing millions of folks who want the same things that our own ancestors wanted.
The problem is that, while previous immigrants were assimilated into the general American culture, today’s idiotic concept “muliculturism” promoted by the Left is resulting in a Balkanized nation of competing cultural enclaves. What’s needed is as follows:
1. Control of the borders. A nation with open borders ins’t a sovereign nation.
2. Return to the immigration laws prior to 1921. Let anyone in who is a)in good health, b) of “good moral character” and c) will not be a “burden on society” Just like when my Zeide came in
3. Make English the official language of the Country
After the 9/11/01 attacks, ALL immigration into the USA, legal and illegal should have been stopped, period. The USA no longer has the wild frontiers to settle. The budget of the USA has expanded from One hundred million dollars in 1965, to 3. 7 trillion dollars in 2019. In other words, in a span of a little over 50 years, for every dollar Uncle Sam was spending in 1965, it is spending $40.00 today. Most of those dollars are not spent on defense, but on social services. Even President Ronald Reagan, stated (in one of his State of the Union Addresses, that “it is time that the federal government went on a diet”. At this point, nobody knows the exact population of the USA, although estimates could be as high as 340,000,000. Until the USA gains control of who comes in, and who leaves, our borders should only be open to those who come here on official business, or tourists, who have been extensively screened, prior to their arrival. In other countries (i.e. Israel), there is much stricter screener vis-a-vis arrivals, and departures.
