NEW YORK (JTA) — A man was arrested for yelling and cursing at a Jewish couple in midtown Manhattan near Times Square.

Vernon Stevens, 55, who has at least five prior arrests, was charged with aggravated harassment and a hate crime, police told the New York Post.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Friday. When a 16-year-old witness went to alert nearby police officers on patrol, Stevens called the couple “F***ing Jews!” unnamed sources told the Post.
The incident comes amid an increase in anti-Semitic violence against Jews in the city.

Seriously?! Hate crime? This is absurd. I’ve been called a lot worse in my lifetime. By calling this a hate crime, it minimizes what a real hate crime is. Ooooh, this guy looked at me the wrong way. Btw, a certain famous camp in Ferndale NY rejected my kid from coming (was put on their infamous “waiting list” = you ain’t getting in). Isn’t that a hate crime? Hate crime is only when a gentile does/doesn’t do something to a Jew? A Jew on Jew is NOT a hate crime???
Why is there such a preponderance of Blacks attacking Jews in NYC, and suburban areas of late? What is causing this hate directed specifically against religious Jews by Blacks? Also, the news media has rarely pointed out whom the perpetrators are in these cases. Not one of the present “crop” of Presidential candidates in the Democratic party have addressed this problem. In 2002, there was a large march and demonstration at the U.S. Capitol, by American Jewry, protesting the bus bombings in Israel. It was much larger than the march against hate, which was held in NYC, several weeks ago. There has to be another march on Washington, involving at least 100,000 or more Jews, with national and worldwide coverage by the media.

It is a hate crime. Free speech crosses a line to harrassment with the tone, manner, and menacing nature of it. They were not having a conversation. Please, people.
