According to an all campus alert sent by the university on Tuesday, the second confirmed case of coronavirus in New York — a Westchester County attorney in his 50s — is the father of a male undergraduate student at Yeshiva. The student is currently in quarantine with his family, and the campus alert noted that “the student has not been on campus since Thursday, February 27th.”

A student at the university’s Cardozo Law School is “in self-quarantine as instructed by their doctor, as a precaution because of contact with the patient’s law firm.” The student is asymptomatic.

Yeshiva University said it was coordinating with relevant government agencies to “to take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our community,” including disinfecting all relevant common areas, but said all classes and university events will continue as usual.

As the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported, three Jewish day schools in New York — SAR Academy, Westchester Day School and Westchester Torah Academy — closed on Tuesday due to possible coronavirus exposure.

The alert sent out reads as follows:

Dear Yeshiva Community,

We are writing to share two pieces of news related to COVID-19.

We have learned that one of the children of the Westchester attorney identified as New York’s second case of COVID-19 is an undergraduate male student at Yeshiva University. We are working closely with, and following the recommendations of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response and other government agencies to take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our community. The student has not been on campus since Thursday, February 27th and is in quarantine with his family. The DOHMH is testing the family.

Additionally, a Cardozo student is in self-quarantine as instructed by their doctor, as a precaution because of contact with the patient’s law firm. The Cardozo student is reporting no symptoms.

The University is disinfecting all relevant common areas.

We will continue to work closely with the DOHMH and will share information as we receive it. In the meantime, we urge you to follow the CDC’s guidelines on hand-washing and sanitary practices that prevent the spread of viruses. If you feel you have symptoms, contact your doctor or call 311.

At this time, all University functions and classes are continuing to operate as usual.

You are presenting fake news and you sensationalized headline is misleading.
If you read and understand English the YU alert clearly states that the family of the hospitalized man is “being tested” and the Cardozo student went to the man’s law firm and is “not showing any symptoms.”
Stop creating panic and stick with the facts!

Also saying two YU students- can be very misleading- Cardozo is completely separate from the Yeshiva, and in a completely different location (Bronx vs Washington Heights) It makes it seem like the campus of Yeshiva has two bachurim who are sick which can lead to more panic.

To the so called journalist..
What a fake and irresponsible headline. No one is suspected. To the contrary, they have no symptoms. They are self quarantined as a precaution due to possible contact.
It’s people like you that selfishly and irresponsibly cause unnecessary merely to grab additional clicks.
Shame on you.
If illiteracy were a crime, you’d be in prison for life.
