NEW YORK (AP) – New York’s moratorium on outbreak-related housing evictions was extended Thursday by Cuomo for two more months.

The governor in March had issued a moratorium that lasted through June, but he said he wanted to reduce the anxiety of families struggling through the economic shutdown. It is now extended until Aug. 20.

“I hope it gives families a deep breath,” Cuomo said at his daily briefing.

The executive order will also ban late fees for missed payments and allow renters to apply their security deposit to a payment, though they’d have to pay it back over time.

New York tallied 231 virus-related deaths Wednesday. Though hospitalizations continued to decrease slowly to under 8,700, the daily death toll has hovered around 230 for four days.

I haven’t paid my heimishe landlord my rent for May yet. I’m planning to wait a little and see if he says anything. Before you guys start cursing me, I know you’re all ever so concerned about dina dimalchusa dina and the chillul Hashem it causes when one doesn’t follow it. Well, now the Governor just told us that we renters don’t have to pay our rent. And by the way, how is different than following the law about not davening/praying with a minyan? That’s also dina dimalchusa dina. You can’t pick and choose which din you’re going to follow and which ones not.

Yes what’s with the banks and mortgages?

You have to further asks yourself what happens after aug 20? Will tennates then have money retroativley for past due rent? Are banks and the city ready to forgo that to? How will landlords pay for miantaince and other building needs?

If you keep this communist game up much longer, why will banks ever lend money any more? Will we ever build new houses ? You eventually erod confidence in the system,

Homeowners and landlords should stop paying real estate and water taxes as well as their bank mtgs. Also stop payment the gas and electric bills. They can’t remove your meters. For landlords there are ways to teach bad tenants a lesson. Find out who is illegal and call ICE. If they have lots of small kids and you hear screaming call child welfare bureau. If you have a real vicious rent strike just pay someone to me be and put in some druggies who will rob and harass the non paying bums. It’s simple. Of course do it only to arelim or Freir.
