The accident occurred on road 87 just north of the Kinneret lake, as the minibus which was carrying members of the Migdal Ha’Emek Tomchei Temimim yeshiva plunged off the road and fell into a deep ditch. The minibus inexplicably came to a rest on its wheels and eight of those inside the minibus were only lightly injured. However Mendy Elias, who was standing at the front of the minibus and teaching Torah to his friends, was thrown out of the minibus and seriously injured. He was taken by helicopter to Rambam hospital in Haifa, where he was immediately sedated and respirated. Due to his severe loss of blood it was feared that he had suffered severe internal injuries. However after just a few hours he woke up in the ICU and requested Tefillin despite his intense pain.

Mendy’s mother, Moran Elias, spoke of the “great miracle” which her son had experienced and thanked all those who prayed on his behalf. She said that “Mendy is my wonderful beloved firstborn and I couldn’t imagine that he would not emerge from this. Baruch Hashem we had a miracle and Mendy is awake and communicating with his surroundings. However he is still weak and in pain and I ask all to say a Tehillim for Menachem Mendel ben Moran.”
