JERUSALEM (VINnews) — A highly unconventional wedding took place in Jerusalem Monday in the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak compound in the Mea Shearim quarter of Jerusalem. The groom is a student at the Religious Zionist Merkaz Harav yeshiva but chose to ask the Rebbe to officiate at his wedding as he and some of his friends have been accustomed to attend the tish of the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak rebbe for a number of years.

The groom, Yonatan Liber, and his friends like to sing the tunes of the chasidus and have established a close relationship with the anti-Zionist chasidic sect despite their ideological differences. For this reason he requested from his rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira ,permission to hold the chupah in the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak compound, with the rest of the wedding to take place in the evening at the site of ancient Shilo.
Hundreds of students from the yeshiva accompanied by Rabbi Shapira attended the wedding which included a reception and the chupah with the elderly rebbe officiating. The unusual mix of people demonstrated the unity among Jews in Israel which succeeds in transcending their ideological differences.
