JERUSALEM (VINnews) — 94-year-old Holocaust survivor Binyamin Wurzberger had an emotional meeting today with Israeli chief rabbi David Lau, himself the son of a survivor. Rabbi Lau presented him with the semicha (rabbinical ordination) certificate of his great-grandson Rabbi Yair Kofeld, who has completed his rabbinical studies at the Har Hamor yeshiva in Jerusalem.

Wurzberger, who had asked to take part in the ceremony, perused the certificate with great emotion and then said that “after I went through the seven levels of hell with the Nazis, may their name be blotted out, and I merited this, it is hard to express it in words.”

Rabbi Lau told him that he was the one responsible for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up in the tents of Torah and blessed him that he would merit to bring more of his descendants to receive their rabbinical ordination.
