NEW YORK (VINnews) — The grim news from the site of the Champlain Tower collapse in Miami continued over the weekend, as rescuers battled the elements in an attempt to recover more bodies from the debris. On Friday the team succeeded in identifying the body of R’ Benny (Yisrael Tzvi) Weisz, a Lakewood Torah scholar who worked in an investment house and studied in a local kollel. Weisz’s wife Malki, the daughter of Harry (Chaim) Rosenberg z’l whose body was discovered a few days ago, has yet to be located.

The 32-year-old Weisz had been married to Malki for 5 years but they did not have any children. The couple had arrived in Surfside on the 24th of June, the night of the collapse, in order to be with Malki’s father in his new home. Rosenberg had suffered the loss of his wife to disease in the past year as well as both parents who died of COVID-19.

R’ Benny was born in Vienna, Austria, one of two children of Dyori and Tina Weisz. Dyori, who passed away a few years ago, ran a coffee shop in Vienna. Chana Weizer, a friend of the family and the Lubavitch emissary in Vienna, described Benny and his older brother Danny as “very sensitive people who truly embody their Jewish values.”

Benny studied in Hevron yeshiva in Jerusalem and then continued to a computer science degree at King’s College, London. After his marriage to Malki the couple moved to Lakewood where Benny worked in finance and studied in Kollel, while his wife worked as an auditor at a large New Jersey accounting firm.

86 bodies have now been removed from the debris and 54 people remain unaccounted for. The rescue teams had to stop for a while on Shabbos morning due to lighting problems but then continued their work throughout the day.
