‘Infertile’ British Woman Taken For ‘Appendicitis’ Operation Discovers She Is Actually In Labor

NEW YORK (VINnews) — 43-year old Janice Kerwick had resigned herself to remaining childless after a decade of attempts to get pregnant with her 39-year-old husband Daniel, including IVF treatments, had all failed. Therefore when she suffered stomach pains over the last few months, she was certain that she was not pregnant but mystified about the cause of the pains. Three negative pregnancy tests seemed to confirm that this was not the issue, and Kerwich was also losing weight – not a common sign of pregnancy.

When her stomach pains intensified, Janice’s doctors diagnosed appendicitis and prepared her for emergency surgery. However the mandatory pregnancy test taken prior to the operation revealed the startling truth -Janice was actually eight months pregnant.

“I went from believing I was infertile and that I had appendicitis, to being told I am two hours away from having a baby,” Janice said.

“We were both in complete shock.”

Baby Arabella was born by C-section a few hours later – a miracle baby for the couple who had given up on the idea of ever having a child together.

“I didn’t really believe it was happening until I actually held Arabella in my arms.

“It sounds far-fetched, but I truly had no idea I was pregnant.

“I’d dropped a dress size, I hadn’t felt kicks, and got three negative pregnancy test results.

“After so many years of wanting a baby we had given up thinking it might ever be possible – especially after IVF didn’t work.

“We’d even bought a puppy thinking it was the closest we’d get to ever having a baby – and then this happened.

“It wasn’t a typical pregnancy experience, but it brought us our little miracle baby after all these years.”

Daniel already has two teenage children from a previous relationship and the couple had given up trying to have a baby last year, after a number of failed rounds of IVF and because Janice had been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in her youth. Doctors had puzzled over the source of Janice’s stomach pains, suggesting they could stem from gastritis, pneumonia or a severe stomach bug. However on June 21 the pains intensified and Janice felt really sick

“I was terrified. I had no idea what was happening to me.”

Just hours later, Janice’s C-section took place and tiny Arabella, their miracle baby, was born at 9.55pm on June 22, weighing 2.2kg.

After both mum and baby were whisked away for check-ups, Janice could finally hold her surprise daughter the following morning, which she said was a “tearful experience”.

“It didn’t feel real until I actually held her in my arms,” she said.

“But as soon as I did, it was the best feeling in the world and I just burst into tears.”

Doctors later surmised that the pregnancy hadn’t been noticable on Janice because Arabella had very little fluid around her in the womb.

With just a 2.2kg baby, and minimum water, Janice’s weight loss from an improved diet had masked any weight gained during the pregnancy.

Despite the shock birth, Janice and Daniel said it was the best thing that could have happened to them.

“We are loving finally having our baby after believing for so long it would never be possible,” Janice said.

“She is perfect and everything we wanted.

“We are so grateful for our miracle and she was worth all the years of waiting.”

To anyone who is in favor of socialized medicine, this woman had months of abdominal pain, and her doctors are ready to do an appendectomy. Why didn’t she have a diagnostic test? An mri, ct scan, even an ultrasound would have shown she was pregnant. In Britain due to socialized medicine these tests are not available. The diagnostic test to confirm appendicitis is called surgery. A doctor in the US who did this would lose his license

And no doctor did an ultrasound to see what the pain was???
