NEW YORK (VINnews) — In response to the city’s newly announced mandate requiring employees of Yeshivas and other private schools to get vaccinated for Covid, Agudas Yisrael sent a strong letter Thursday, urging city officials to rescind their decision.

Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, Executive Vice President of the Agudah, sent the letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio and Health Commissioner Dave Chokshi, in his capacity as Chairman of the Committee of New York City Religious and Independent School Officials, which represents a wide spectrum of NYC private school students.

In the letter he says, “While we support and generally encourage Covid vaccination in our schools…many of our schools view Covid vaccination as a matter left to individual choice, rather than governmental fiat.”

He added, “The practical impact of the city imposing an immunization mandate could be devastating to our schools and the children they serve.”

Rabbi Zwiebel also noted that Covid transmission rates in NYC private schools have been “extremely low”, and “the vast majority of staff members in private schools have been fully vaccinated.”

i would like to point out that Aguda board member Leon Goldenberg always told everyone that he has a PERSONAL connection to de blas and urged everyone to vote, as did Chaskel Bennett. These Aguda board members never met a Democrat they didnt like and that is why they supported a UFT member named Saperstein over a frum Russian baalas teshuva Inna Vernikov since he was a Democrat.

This will devastate our schools. They can’t afford to lose staff. And lose staff they will, especially female staff.

None of what he is saying is particularly unreasonable in and of itself. The question is, is there going to be a comprehensive mandate or a patchwork mandate.

I would also be interested in seeking the numbers that back up that yeshivas have lower rates v. the rest of the population. I don’t see how they would collect that information to know one way or the other.

This is so stupid, why spend political capital on defending the nutty antivaxxers in our community? In the words of one well known Posek when asked about a religious exemption, “sure I support religious exemptions, but not based on the Jewish religion”. He then went on to say that when he was in cheder they lined up to get the polio vaccine and there were no antivaxxers to speak of.

In Wikipedia they should give this as an example of Worst Argument Ever:

“…many of our schools view Covid vaccination as a matter left to individual choice, rather than governmental fiat.

In other words: Government fiats are only for the Goyim. We Jews play by our own rules.

What a Chillul HaShem.

(BTW, while I’m pro-vaccine for those that never had COVID-19, I am anti-mandate. Just use cogent arguments; not Purim Torah)

There already exists a mandate for Yeshivas to have their staff vaccinated. The mandate is in the Torah, Venishmertem M’Od Lenafshoseichem. So why is the Agudah opposed to a governmental mandate that is consistent with the Torah and can save lives.

What a disgrace by agudah, why shouldn’t all teachers and staff be vaccinated? There is no religious reasons for an exemption as you yourself claimed when hundreds of kids were expelled from schools cuz they did not get the measles vaccine and you were all quiet and accepted it now accept this too, what goes around comes around.

Just ignore the rules and do as you wish. They can’t do much other than defunding. And you’ll get your money back later. This is our lesson from Nov 2020. Ignore and laugh in thier face . It will be good

Goyim out west are eating DIRT from TOXIC LANDFILL, filled w arsenic and lead rather than taking the tested , safe vaccine. They are taking pig de-worming meds and hydroquakazine. Google it. Is this Torah, to ignore tested, vetted, basic life-saving vaccines?
