The 40-year-old woman, from northern Jawzjan province, gave the baby to a childless couple in return for $104 which she hoped would buy enough food to last her family for another six months. The woman had worked in a family farm but drought forced her to leave the farm and enter a city where her husband and son used to work as laborers before the Taliban’s August takeover of the country collapsed the economy and left them unemployed.
According to UN statistic, more than half the population face starvation this winter after international aid has ceased with the advent of the extreme Muslim regime.
One aid organization still active in Afghanistan is Save the Children and its workers discovered the family which had sold a twin son in order to feed his twin sister.
The mother explained to the workers that the twins had been born a few months ago. Initially she planned to keep both childreb but could hardly even provide food for one of them. Her husband and young son cannot provide enough income to feed the family.
With the new babies crying continually from hunger, the woman says a childless couple approached her and offered $104 to take her newborn son away.
Initially she refused, but after several days of seeing the boy cry with nothing to eat – she decided that giving him away was the best option to provide for him and for her remaining children.
She said: ‘It was hard. Harder than you can imagine. I gave my child away because of destitution… I was unable to take care of him and I could not afford anything.
The family subsists almost completely on bread home-baked from flour and sometimes succeeds in getting milk powder for the baby.
‘I gave all of the money to my husband,’ the woman said. ;’He bought some rice, oil, and flour. We already finished them.’
Her husband added: ‘We need help, we are hungry and poor.
‘There are no work opportunities in Afghanistan. We have children. We need flour and oil the most, which we don’t have. It’s also good to have firewood.
‘I could not afford to buy meat in the last two or three months. We only have bread for the children which is not always available.’
Save the Children provided the family with emergency packages for their home.
They were given items for the kitchen, blankets, winter clothing, shoes, tool kits and other essential items such as a gas cooking stove.

I shall never forgive George Bush the Lesser for throwing away victory in Afghanistan for a quagmire in Iraq.
Today there are 35,000 Afghan refugees on US Army bases here waiting to be resettled. HIAS is one org that’s doing great work helping some of them.
This is obviously Trump’s fault because he said he would do something that he never actually ended up doing and it’s of course not the fault of the one who actually did it because orange man bad and corona and something else
It’s hard to say but the Afghan people brought this upon themselves. Instead of fighting gif their freedom they gave into this
