JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israel’s ‘Carmel’ storm, the first official named storm of the Israeli winter, battered the country with force over the past three days, causing trees to be uprooted, cars and roads to be submerged and significant damage.

In Tel Aviv’s Ramat Aviv neighborhood Tuesday 31 mm of rain fell in just 40 minutes and on the seafront promenade 22 mm fell in 20 minutes, causing extensive flooding in “the most expensive city in the world.” In Holon, Petah Tikvah and other lowlying towns there was also flooding. 25 cm of snow fell on the Hermon mountain during the course of Tuesday.

Sea front
On Monday, a tree collapsed on a pedestrian in Netanya, critically injuring him. United Hatzalah medics succeeded in resuscitating the injured man and he was transferred to the Laniado hospital nearby. A large number of trees fell during the storm as well as electric pylons, causing electrical cuts in a number of regions. Some roads were also blocked by falling stones.
