Israeli Gvt. Rejects Bill Allowing Wives Of Avreichim To Take Sick Leave For Children, MK Maklev: ‘Discrimination’

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Israeli government is opposed to allowing the wives of Avreichim to stay home with their children on sick leave. The Knesset rejected a bill submitted by UTJ MK Uri Maklev which proposed allowing a woman who is employed and has a husband studying in kollel to receive sick leave for her children. A similar law permits sick leave when both parents are working.

Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Yair Golan called on the Knesset to reject the bill stating that “there is a limit to how much we can place a burden on the public coffers, the state should not need to fund a spouse who is studying.”

Maklev has suggested allowing students as well as Torah scholars to be included in the law, which currently says that student’s wives are also not entitled to sick leave for children. Maklev noted that on many occasions government officials come to check that Avreichim are studying and do not accept that they might be home with their children on sick leave, even though the government itself does not grant sick leave to their wives.

Maklev said that if he had proposed the law just for students it would have passed but “Avreichim studying are not unemployed! This is discrimination against those studying Torah. The wealthy don’t feel for the poor, when we discuss Torah scholars you are hostile and do not authorize anything.”

Maklev rejected Golan’s assertion that the state would pay for this, stressing that the sick leave would come from the parent’s own sick days which he receives from the state by right.

The secular gvmnt has money to give a hundred million to the PA terrorist who pay terrorist families who kill Jews. They have monthly millions to pay Gaza even as rockets are fired by them. They have money to pay millions in overtime to police to protect gay parades in Jerusalem. But for religious women nothing.

This government are reshaim.

Shem reshaim yirkav.

Bennent, Lieberman, lapid and gantz – your end is not one I envy.

Start up with anyone and anything. But to start up with the Torah and the families that toil in it, ouch.

How is it discrimination? The husbands are not working. And when there is a protest he’ll be the first one to go join.
Why do they feel that it’s a Mitzvah to Shlep as much money from the Government as possible.
