JERUSALEM (VINnews) — A stunning new educational milestone may be imminent, as a large Charedi group may soon integrate the core curriculum into its yeshivas.

Several days ago, the Education Committee of Belzer Chassidus met with leaders from the Israeli Education Ministry to discuss a framework to teach the core curriculum of secular studies at boys’ chadarim.

If the game-changing plan comes to fruition, the yeshivas that implement it will receive cooperation and funding from the ministry. The curriculum includes Hebrew, English, and math, and standardized exams will be offered to students.

Elchanan Glatt, Director General of the Bnei Akiva Yeshivot and Ulpanot Center, credited the Belzer Rebbe, Rabbi Yissaschar Dov Rokeach, who took the initiative on this bold decision.

Mr. Glatt said, “I congratulate the Belzer Rebbe for his brave decision to integrate the core curriculum…this decision sends an important message that it is possible to live a life of Torah even with general subjects, and to make them holy.”

He added, “I am happy that the things that our rabbis…saw many years ago, are beginning to be seen today in the haredi world as well. I believe that this is the right direction for the future generation.”

This is great news. The Belzer Ruv has always been a visionary. Does what is in the best interest of his Chasidim and doesn’t care what others think or say.
Hopefully many more groups will follow.

The Devil is, of course, in the details.
Having the Zionists – whose entire purpose in existing is shmad – in any way involved with Jewish education – whose entire purpose is Judaism – seems like a really bad idea.

By the way, the reason the Brisker Rav stayed in Israel despite their shmad is the pure chinuch. Once they take that away, Israel becomes worst option for frum Jews in every way (other than the inherent kedusha of the land).

‘I couldn’t afford to learn it.’ said the Mock Turtle with a sigh. ‘I only took the regular course.’
‘What was that?’ inquired Alice.
‘Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with,’ the Mock Turtle replied; ‘and then the different branches of Arithmetic — Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision.’

Alice did not feel encouraged to ask any more questions about it, so she turned to the Mock Turtle, and said ‘What else had you to learn?’
‘Well, there was Mystery,’ the Mock Turtle replied, counting off the subjects on his flappers, ‘ — Mystery, ancient and modern, with Seaography: then Drawling — the Drawling-master was an old conger-eel, that used to come once a week: he taught us Drawling, Stretching, and Fainting in Coils.’

The Belzer Rebbe has always been the one who broke fences between Charedim and Chilonem.

It is his tendency not to follow Mesoras Avos in his grandfathers and great grandfathers footsteps.

So there is no real news here. It was a tragedy in the makings!
