Rabbi Herzog, who has American citizenship, describes the people as “amazing, really nice” and expressed his wonder at the huge amount of stock in the Tehran bazaar.

Rabbi Yaakov Herzog initially made a name for himself after frequenting Saudia Arabia and styling himself as the Rabbi of KSA(Kingdom of Saudia Arabia), providing religious services for the expatriate Jewish community in Saudia Arabia.

However Rabbi Herzog has now used his foreign passport to visit a far more forbidding venue, arriving in Tehran, Iran where he visited the local Jewish community as well as numerous popular sites in the bustling city. In one clip

Rabbi Herzog also used the opportunity to visit Hamadan, the site of the tombs of Esther and Mordechai. Rabbi Herzog has refused to discuss with the media the reason behind his visit to Iran, but was not concerned about the media clips of him speaking Hebrew in the anti-Israel country.

Why are people always shocked about Jews in Iran? No one likes to say it cuz they’re more Anti-Israel than Anti Semitic.
Not only Jews have a culture. Iran does as well. They are trying to be a country like they were in the past. A well run country with law and order and advancement. They go back 2,500 years to see what they should be like. That time was the period when the Jews were allowed to rebuild the Bais Hamikdash and lived well under the Persian rule. So why is anyone surprised they allow Jews to be Jews?
They are very proud they still have Jews living there and would not be happy if Iran lost all it’s Jewish people and culture which has contributed to who they are.
Also remember while it’s called the Talmud Bavli Bavel was actually a territory of the Persian empire. The Rabbonim don’t seem to have lived such terrible lives there at all.
The fact that numerous functioning Shuls and Kevarim exist there just proves the point.

Despite his garb, atypical for a Habad Hasid, this guy seems to be a Lubavitcher. Note the images of the last Lubavitcher Rebbe behind him in photos. Seems he wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow Lubavitcher L. Duchman who went to the UAE a few years ago and made himself a position there. He should be more cautious and restrained, however, and not try to imitate way-out Lubavitchers like Sam Boteach and Meir K.
