JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Violent clashes broke out during the course of the funeral of Shirin Abu Aqleh, killed in Jenin during crossfire between the IDF and Palestinian terrorists. The body of the journalist was taken from Sheikh Jarrah’s French Hospital amid clashes and altercations between mourners and police securing the procession.

The procession continued to the Christian cemetery near Jaffa gate, where chareidi passersby were also assaulted by some of the mourners going towards the cemetery.
Police reported that “during the last few hours, Israeli police have been working to allow the orderly procession of the funeral of Shirin Abu Aqleh. Police prepared additional forces and held preliminary meetings with family members to coordinate the different aspects of the funeral. Unfortunately, due to cynical exploitation of the funeral, hundreds of rioters began to riot prior to the funeral.
“Hundreds of people congregated outside the French Hospital in Sheikh Jarrah and began screaming inciteful messages. Police officers warned the crowd before enforcement actions were taken. As the coffin was removed from the hospital, stones were thrown at policemen who were forced to act to disperse the agitators, who tried to derail the funeral and harm security forces. Police will act against these agitators using all necessary means.”
Police also reported that the rioters even damaged the car carrying the coffin and tried to prevent its advance. Police forces acted to restore order in the procession.
6 people were arrested during the course of the funeral for public disorder and attacking policemen.
